CEA Response to Civil Unrest in France

The health, safety and well-being of our students abroad is our number one priority at CEA. As such, we are diligently monitoring the civil unrest that is occurring in France and taking the appropriate steps to ensure the security of our students.

Our France International Staff sends daily updates to the CEA Tempe Headquarters to detail the latest events as well as their regular interaction with our students. Students are being kept up to date with specifics of the unrest via regular email communication from our directors. Likewise, group meetings are facilitated as necessary. In addition to general orientation health and safety guidelines being reiterated the following is advice being dispensed to students in France.

  • Onsite staff has delineated areas of Paris that student should avoid.
  • Students are being told to limit their weekend travel.
  • Students are advised when possible to avoid going out during the night.
  • Onsite staff is also reiterating to students that they should not get involved with the riot issues.

For the latest security information, Americans living and traveling abroad should regularly monitor the Department's Bureau of Consular Affairs Internet web site at http://travel.state.gov/, where the current Worldwide Caution, Public Announcements, and Travel Warnings can be found. Up-to-date information on security can also be obtained by calling 1-888-407-4747 toll free in the U.S., or, for callers outside the U.S. and Canada, a regular toll line at 1-317-472-2328. These numbers are available from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Eastern Time, Monday through Friday (except U.S. federal holidays).

Our Health and Safety Committee as well as our International Staff will continue to monitor the situation closely and we feel confident that the steps we are taking will ensure our students' safety abroad. As always, we suggest parents of students in France should remain in contact with their son or daughter for the most up-to-date news. In addition, do not hesitate to call CEA at 1-800-266-4441 with any further questions.
