CEA Response to UK Counter Terrorist Operation
The health, safety and well-being of our students are primary priorities at CEA. As such, we are currently monitoring the unfolding counter terrorist operation in the UK. Our UK International Staff is in constant contact with CEA Tempe Headquarters detailing the latest events and their interaction with our students. We are taking all appropriate steps to ensure our students’ safety. CEA would like to take the time to explain the situation in hopes to quell any fears and answer all questions.
Q. What caused the counter terrorist operation?
A. A terrorist plot, which included the plan to smuggle explosives on 10 aircraft, was foiled after 21 people were arrested. Homeland Security Secretary John Reid believes that the “main players” have been accounted for. Both US and UK officials are proceeding with caution and implementing extra security measures.
Q. How is this affecting students that are currently in London?
A. London is operating normally. Aviation delays and cancellations throughout the United Kingdom and the United States are delaying some students’ departures, but the onsite staff is in constant communication with each student. They are being kept abreast of all updates.
Q. How will it affect future students planning on studying in London?
A. All travelers, regardless of their destination, will be affected by new regulations limiting what can be brought in carry-on luggage. Other than that, London students should not expect to feel any other repercussions.
For the latest security information, Americans living and traveling abroad should regularly monitor the Department's Bureau of Consular Affairs Internet web site at http://travel.state.gov/, where the current Worldwide Caution, Public Announcements, and Travel Warnings can be found.
