Shannon Cates


Director of Development

As CEA’s Director of Development, Shannon Cates is responsible for identifying and creating Partner and GlobalCampus programs of high academic caliber and relevance to CEA’s clients. She works closely with departments across the company to identify new opportunities and research potential locations and institutional partners.

Prior to joining CEA, Ms. Cates provided technical and process consulting services to study abroad program providers and university offices. In that capacity, she developed enrollment and program management databases. As the Associate Director for International Training at Rice University (TX), she created and administered the study abroad program development process and associated policies. She also developed and managed training programs for faculty and staff involved with international education. Ms. Cates began her career in international education at Antioch Education Abroad, where she managed several programs in addition to coordinating recruitment and admissions.

Ms. Cates was a Research Scholar at the University of Adelaide in South Australia (with a focus on cultural studies). She earned her B.A. in literature from Antioch College (OH). An active participant in the field of international education since 1993, Ms. Cates was a contributor to NAFSA’s Guide to Education Abroad for Advisors and Administrators (2005 edition) and has served as an application reader for the National Security Education Program David L. Boren Scholarships and the Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship Program.
