CEA Scholarships
Looking for help on financing your study abroad program? CEA offers competitive scholarship opportunities available to all CEA Global Education students. These scholarships are open to program participants who meet the eligibility requirements in order to aid you in subsidizing the cost of your study abroad program.
The 2013-2014 CEA Scholarship program has been specially designed to meet the needs and qualifications for a wide range of students. CEA values the different backgrounds and experiences that a diverse student body brings to the study abroad experience, and we have a wide variety of scholarship options to provide funding to as many students as possible.

Global Career Scholarship (New!)

- For all CEA students who have applied to a program 4-10 weeks in length.

Chris Towns Memorial Scholarships
- For CEA students who have applied to a semester long program in France, and who are involved in co-curricular activities centered on multi-cultural or international issues at their home campus.

General Criteria for all Scholarships
To receive full consideration for CEA's competitive scholarship program, applicants must:
- Have submitted a completed general application for a qualifying CEA study abroad program
- Be confirmed in their program within 30 days of submitting their scholarship materials
- Be currently enrolled at a U.S./Canadian college or university
- Meet all requirements for the scholarship to which they are applying, including the minimum cumulative GPA requirements
- Complete the scholarship application and submit all required supporting documents as outlined in each scholarship category.
The following materials must be submitted for all Scholarships:
- Letter of Recommendation
- Some scholarships require additional materials to be submitted such as an essay, or an additional form. Please read the requirements of each scholarship very carefully as incomplete scholarship applications will not be considered.
- Send all scholarship materials to CEA Headquarters by mail, fax, or e-mail as noted on the Scholarship Application Form. Please send all materials together (letters of recommendation may be sent separately by the recommender). All items must be received by the following dates:
- Spring Programs: October 1
- Summer Programs: March 1
- Fall Programs: April 15
By applying to a CEA scholarship, you are giving CEA permission to publish your name, home university, original essay and likeness.
Selection Process
Candidates who meet the scholarship criteria and program requirements will have their scholarship application and supporting documents evaluated by an independent selection committee. Only one scholarship per student will be awarded per term. Winners will be notified by phone, e-mail, or mail approximately 6 to 8 weeks after the submission deadline.

The highest scoring applicant will be recognized for their exemplary effort by receiving a scholarship awarded with Distinction. These recipients will be featured on the CEA website, and they will receive a larger award than any other scholarship recipients. Amounts for scholarships awarded with Distinction will range from $2,000 to $3,000 for semester length programs and $750-$1,250 for Summer & Short-term programs. Amounts will vary depending on the Affiliate status of the scholarship being awarded. Students who are awarded a scholarship with Distinction are encouraged to highlight this recognition on their professional resumes.

Back to TopAcademic Affiliate Scholarships
As an added level of support to U.S. universities, CEA offers scholarships specially designated for students attending an institution that is an Academic Affiliate of CEA. Students who attend an Academic Affiliate school and apply for one of the Semester/Trimester/Academic Year, Financial Need, or Summer/Short-term Scholarships will automatically be considered for the Affiliate Scholarships. Students may only be awarded one scholarship per term, but will receive the larger of two scholarships if they are selected for more than one. Affiliate scholarships are available for the following CEA scholarships:
- Diversity, Academic Merit, Global Education, Financial Need and Summer & Short-term scholarships

Semester/Trimester/Academic Year Scholarships
Scholarships will be awarded in amounts ranging from $1,000 to $1,500 each; amounts vary depending on the Affiliate status of each award. Additionally, the highest scoring candidate in each Non-Affiliate and Affiliate category will be recognized for their exemplary work with a scholarship awarded with Distinction. Amounts for scholarships awarded with Distinction will range from $2,000 to $3,000.
Students may only apply to one Semester/Trimester/Academic Year Scholarship, but may also apply to the Financial Need Scholarship if they wish (only one scholarship will be awarded per student, per term). The total number of scholarships awarded each term will depend on the quality and quantity of applications. To receive full consideration, the following must be submitted:
- An original 400-500 word essay
Candidates must properly cite the source for any quote or paraphrase used in their essay. Essays with any evidence of plagiarism will cause the candidate to be disqualified from receiving a scholarship. Candidates will be evaluated on their letter of recommendation, and the overall creativity, quality and structure of their essay.

Need-Based Scholarship
Scholarships will be awarded in amounts ranging from $1,000 to $1,500 each; amounts vary depending on the Affiliate status of each award.
Students who apply to the Financial Need Scholarship may also apply to one Memorial Scholarship or one Semester/Trimester/Academic Year Scholarship if they wish (However, only one scholarship will be awarded per student each term). Candidates will be evaluated on their letter of recommendation, and their overall financial need gathered from the Financial Need Scholarship Application.

CEA Memorial Scholarship (Semester/Trimester Only)
Scholarships will be awarded in the amount of $1,000 each.
Students who apply for a Memorial Scholarship will not be considered for a Semester/Trimester/Academic Year scholarship, but may also apply to the Financial Need Scholarship if they wish (only one scholarship will be awarded per student each term). The total number of scholarships awarded each term will depend on the quality and quantity of applications.
- Chris Towns France Scholarship Requirements
- Cumulative GPA: 2.5
- Open to any student who has applied to any CEA France semester, trimester, or year program.
- Write an original 400-500 word essay describing your involvement in co-curricular activities centered on multi-cultural or international issues.

Summer & Short-term Scholarships (4-10 Week Programs)
Scholarships will be awarded in amounts ranging from $500 to $750 each; amounts vary depending on the Affiliate status of each award. Additionally, the highest scoring candidate in each Non-Affiliate and Affiliate category will be recognized for their exemplary work with a scholarship awarded with Distinction. Amounts for scholarships awarded with Distinction will range from $750 to $1,250. The total number of scholarships awarded each term will depend on the quality and quantity of applications.

Back to TopMemorial Scholarships - Limited
CEA supports two scholarships open to candidates attending select universities. These are managed directly by the study abroad offices at the respective institutions, and are limited to candidates who are enrolled at the university overseeing each scholarship. To be eligible for either scholarship, candidates must have applied for a qualifying CEA program. CEA encourages applicants interested in these awards to contact their university study abroad offices for more information. Recipient selection and notification of winners is at the discretion of the institution managing these awards.
- Nick Watson Memorial Scholarship
- $1,000
- Open to candidates who attend The University of Maryland, College Park who have applied for a Semester length CEA program in Spain.
- Sean Dykstra Memorial Scholarship
Recipient Requirements
- Students who are awarded a CEA scholarship must retain full-time status throughout the duration of their CEA program in order to remain eligible for an award. Award recipients who withdraw from their CEA program will forfeit the entirety of their scholarship award.
- Students who are awarded a CEA scholarship must agree to adhere to the CEA Code of Conduct; CEA reserves the right to revoke a scholarship if the recipient fails to adhere to the CEA Code of Conduct listed in our policies.
- Students who are awarded a scholarship with distinction will be required to submit a one page essay about their experience upon returning from their program. More details will be provided to these recipients upon notification of their award.
- By applying to a CEA scholarship, you are giving CEA permission to publish your name, home university, original essay(s) and likeness for educational and promotional purposes.
