Looking for help on financing your study abroad program? Below you will find several unique scholarship opportunities available to CEA Global Education students. These scholarships are open to all CEA program participants who meet the eligibility requirements in order to aid you in subsidizing the cost of your study abroad program.
Applying is easy. Just review the application procedure and fill out our Scholarship Application form for the study abroad scholarship best suited to your qualifications.
General Criteria for all Scholarships
To be considered, applicants must:
- Be accepted into a CEA study abroad program
- Note: Students participating in custom/group programs that are 3 weeks or less in length, and students participating in Short Term standard programs are not eligible for CEA scholarships
- Meet the requirements for the scholarship to which they are applying
- Be currently enrolled at a U.S./Canadian college or university
- Have a minimum 2.5 cumulative GPA, unless otherwise specified
- Complete an original essay of 400 - 500 word; Avoid plagiarism and properly cite the source for any quote or paraphrase used in the essay.
- Adhere to the CEA Code of Conduct; CEA reserves the right to revoke a scholarship if the recipient fails to adhere to the CEA Code of Conduct listed in our policies.
- Complete the scholarship application fully. In order to be considered you must submit the following materials:
- All scholarship materials may be sent to our office by mail, fax, or email as noted on the Scholarship Application Form and must be postmarked by the following dates:
- Summer: March 1
- Fall: April 15
- Spring: October 15
- By applying to a CEA scholarship, you are giving CEA permission to publish your name, home university, original essay and likeness for promotional purposes
Selection Process
Candidates who meet the scholarship criteria and program requirements will have their original essay judged by an independent selection committee. Students may only apply for one scholarship per term. (Students from CEA Academic Affiliates may also apply for an Academic Affiliate scholarship.) If multiple entries are submitted, the first application received will be reviewed. Winners will be notified by phone, email, or mail.

Semester/Trimester/Academic Year Scholarships
Academic Excellence Scholarship
Scholarship Award: $3000 and Fellowship, 2nd Place - $2000
GPA Requirement: 3.5 minimum
Question: How might you and your study abroad experience contribute to the United States' competitive edge academically, politically or socially with the rest of the world?
Guidelines: Open to students who have applied for any CEA trimester, semester or year program and have a minimum GPA of 3.5.
Chris Towns France Scholarship
Scholarship Award: $3000 and Fellowship, 2nd Place - $2000
GPA Requirement: 3.0
Question: Right now a moment of time is passing by! We must become that moment.” – Paul Cezanne, French Impressionist. How does your involvement in extracurricular activities demonstrate this quote?
Guidelines: In memory of former CEA Paris student Chris Towns, this scholarship is open to students who have applied to any CEA France trimester, semester or year program. Students must demonstrate involvement in extracurricular activities centered on multicultural or international issues.
Foreign Language Scholarship
Scholarship Award: $3000 and Fellowship, 2nd Place - $2000
GPA Requirement: 3.0
Question: What single figure or event in the history of your host country has most contributed to your desire to study a foreign language?
Guidelines: Open to all students taking 6 credits of foreign language instruction/foreign language instructed electives during their CEA study abroad program.
Global Education Scholarship
Scholarship Award: $3000 and Fellowship, 2nd Place - $2000
GPA Requirement: 3.0
Question: "Judge a man by his questions rather than his answers." - Voltaire, French Writer and Philosopher. Please come up with your own study abroad related scholarship question and accompanying essay answer.
Guidelines: Open to students who have applied for any CEA trimester, semester or year program.
CEA Financial Need Grant
Scholarship Award: $3000, 2nd Place - $2000
GPA Requirement: 3.0
Question: If you were to start writing a book about your study abroad experience before it began, what would the title be and why?
Guidelines: Open to all students that receive financial aid at their home institution. Students must provide a copy of their current financial aid award letter or Student Aid Report (past year is acceptable if current is not yet available).

Summer Scholarship
CEA Summer Scholarship
Scholarship Award: 1st place $1500, 2nd Place - $750
GPA Requirement: 3.0
Question: What one song would you bring with you on your iPod or on CD to serve as the soundtrack to your study abroad experience? Why?
Guidelines: Open to students who have applied for any CEA summer program.

CEA Academic Affiliate Scholarships (Semester/Trimester Only)
Academic Merit Scholarship
Scholarship Award: $1000
GPA Requirement: 3.5 minimum
Question: How does your study abroad program – and this scholarship – relate to your academic, professional, and personal goals?
Guidelines: Open to students from CEA Academic Affiliates. Consult with your university study abroad advisor to confirm your eligibility.
Financial Challenge Scholarship
Scholarship Award: $1000
GPA Requirement: 2.5 minimum
Question: How does your study abroad program – and this scholarship – relate to your academic, professional, and personal goals? Highlight challenges you have faced in your decision to study abroad, as well as specific financial needs unmet by current aid sources.
Guidelines: Open to students from CEA Academic Affiliates. Consult with your university study abroad advisor to confirm your eligibility.
Global Competency Scholarship
Scholarship Award: $1000
GPA Requirement: 2.5 minimum
Question: How does your study abroad program – and this scholarship – relate to your academic, professional, and personal goals? Highlight the importance of global competency to achieving your long-term goals.
Guidelines: Open to students from CEA Academic Affiliates. Consult with your university study abroad advisor to confirm your eligibility.
Diversifying Study Abroad Scholarship
Scholarship Award: $1000
GPA Requirement: 2.5 minimum
Question: How does your study abroad program – and this scholarship – relate to your academic, professional, and personal goals? Highlight challenges you have faced in your decision to study abroad.
Guidelines: Open to students from CEA Academic Affiliates. Consult with your university study abroad advisor to confirm your eligibility. This scholarship is intended to support students of diverse backgrounds (including but not limited to students of color, students with disabilities, and GLBT students).
