CEA Scholarships

Now Accepting Spring 2011 Scholarship Applications!

Looking for help on financing your study abroad program? Below you will find several unique scholarship opportunities available to CEA Global Education students. These scholarships are open to all CEA program participants who meet the eligibility requirements in order to aid you in subsidizing the cost of your study abroad program.

Applying is easy! Just review the application procedure and fill out our Scholarship Application form for the study abroad scholarship or scholarships best suited to your qualifications.

General Criteria for all Scholarships

To be considered, applicants must:

  • Have submitted a completed application for a CEA study abroad program
    • Note: Students participating in custom/group programs that are 3 weeks or less in length, and students participating in Short Term standard programs are not eligible for CEA scholarships
  • Meet all requirements for the scholarship to which they are applying, including the minimum cumulative GPA requirements
  • Be currently enrolled at a U.S./Canadian college or university
  • Complete an original essay according to specifications outlined below; Avoid plagiarism and properly cite the source for any quote or paraphrase used in the essay
  • Adhere to the CEA Code of Conduct; CEA reserves the right to revoke a scholarship if the recipient fails to adhere to the CEA Code of Conduct listed in our policies
  • Complete the scholarship application fully with supporting documents. In order to be considered you must submit the following materials:
  • Send all scholarship materials to our office by mail, fax, or e-mail as noted on the Scholarship Application Form. Items must be postmarked by the following dates:
    • Summer: March 1
    • Fall: April 15
    • Spring: October 15

By applying to a CEA scholarship, you are giving CEA permission to publish your name, home university, original essay and likeness for promotional purposes.

Selection Process

Candidates who meet the scholarship criteria and program requirements will have their scholarship application and supporting documents judged by an independent selection committee. Students may apply for more than one scholarship per term; however, only one scholarship per student will be awarded per term. Winners will be notified by phone, e-mail, or mail before the start of their term.

Academic Affiliate Scholarships

As an added level of support to U.S. universities, CEA offers scholarships specially designated for our Academic Affiliates. Students who attend an Academic Affiliate school and apply for the Semester/Trimester/Academic Year Scholarships listed below also will be considered for the Affiliate Scholarships of the same categories. Students only may be awarded one scholarship per term, but receive the larger of two scholarships if they qualify for more than one.

Semester/Trimester/Academic Year Scholarships

Multiple scholarships in each category will be awarded in the amount of $1,000 each. The number of scholarships given will depend on the quality and quantity of applications. Multiple Academic Affiliate scholarships also will be awarded in each category in the amount of $1,500 each.

  • Academic Merit Scholarship
    • Cumulative GPA requirement: 3.7
    • Write an original 400-500 word essay responding to the following prompt: How might your study abroad experience improve your ability to affect positive change in the world?
    • Academic Merit scholarship candidates will be judged on their academic achievements, academic letter of recommendation and the quality, structure and creativity of their original essay.
  • Financial Need Scholarship
    • Cumulative GPA requirement: 2.5
    • Submit official documentation of EFC.
    • Write a 200-300 word statement on the following: Please offer a personal statement that describes any additional financial circumstances that may or may not be reflected by your EFC.
    • Candidates will be judged on their overall financial need (gathered from EFC and personal statement) and their letter of recommendation.
  • Global Education Scholarship
    • Cumulative GPA requirement: 2.5
    • Write an original 400-500 word essay responding to the following prompt: What significant event or issue in the world today has contributed to your decision to study abroad?
    • Candidates will be judged on their letter of recommendation, and the quality, structure and creativity of their original essay.

CEA Memorial Scholarship (Semester/Trimester Only)


  • Chris Towns France Scholarship
    • Multiple scholarships will be awarded in the amount of $1,000 per student.
    • Cumulative GPA requirement: 2.5
    • Open to any student who has applied to any CEA France semester, trimester, or year program.
    • Scholarship applicants must demonstrate involvement in co-curricular activities centered on multicultural or international issues.
    • Write an original 400-500 word essay responding to the following prompt: Explain how your co-curricular involvement has affected your decision to study abroad.
    • Candidates will be judged on demonstrated involvement with co-curricular activities, their letter of recommendation, and the quality and creativity of their original essay.

Summer Scholarship

Scholarships will be awarded in the amount of $250 per student. Academic Affiliate scholarships will be awarded in the amount of $500 and are only available for students who attend an Academic Affiliate Institution. The number of scholarships awarded will depend on the quality and quantity of applications. Students may not be awarded more than one scholarship per term.

  • Cumulative GPA requirement: 2.5
  • Write an original 400-500 word essay responding to the following prompt: What significant event or issue in the world today has contributed to your decision to study abroad?
  • Candidates will be judged on their letter of recommendation and the quality, structure and creativity of their original essay.

Cultural Experiences Abroad (CEA) provides study abroad programs in Argentina, Australia, Chile, China, Costa Rica, Czech Republic, England, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Mexico, South Africa and Spain for U.S. and Canadian college students.
