The University of Arizona is offering a semester-long program at the Kharkiv National University of Economics: "Arizona in Ukraine," focusing on the study of political science in an emerging democracy.
Kharkiv, located in northeastern Ukraine, is a lively university city with an international flair and best known for its accomplishments in higher education and research. The city is home to 13 national universities. Kharkiv's universities and other institutions of higher education boast more than 17,000 faculty and research staff, 26,000 scientists working in research and development and about 150,000 students. Of those, 9,000 are foreign students representing 96 countries in the city.
Enrollment is currently open for the Fall 2010 and Spring 2011 semesters. Taught by Ukrainian scholars, courses will focus on post-communist and post-Soviet themes and issues. Students will participate in a model United Nations class and develop a student organized conference. They may also opt to take Russian language courses and/or work with a local NGO.
