01/12/07 - University Teams Up With Study-Abroad Coordinator on New Network

The Chronicle of Higher education: News Blog
January 04, 2006

The University of New Haven has announced a new partnership with Cultural Experiences Abroad to help develop and run a network of study-abroad programs known as Global Campus Centers.

The group, known as CEA and based in Arizona, is a for-profit organization that has been placing students in study-abroad locations since 1996. Many of the programs have been at existing universities, but the new partnership will focus on expanding a series of separate centers already in place.

Juli Roebuck, associate vice president for university advancement at New Haven, said her institution would help develop the curriculum and provide academic oversight at each center. CEA will use its existing networks to find classroom space and identify local faculty members to teach. Students who study at one of the centers would receive a transcript from the University of New Haven.

Ms. Roebuck said the venture, which is largely being financed by CEA, would raise the university’s profile and help more of its students to study abroad. The two organizations hope to open centers this spring in Paris and Barcelona, then branch out to Florence, London, Madrid, the south of France, and eventually Asia. By 2009 they hope to enroll 4,000 students worldwide.
